Municipality of epalinges
HA development that blends in with the surrounding countryside
This resolutely contemporary development offers three floors of living space and has been designed as a single-family home. It stands on a tree-studded plot in a residential neighbourhood of Epalinges, close to Lausanne.
The property has an east/west orientation on each floor with a vertical layout in the centre. The building comprises 10 rooms, five bathrooms, dressing room, open-plan central kitchen, pantry/kitchen, laundry room and cellar/technical room. On the upper ground floor, an uncovered terrace to the east and a covered terrace to the west extend the communal area and bring the interior into dialogue with the exterior amenities, such as the swimming pool and terrace on the south side of the villa.
The building consisted originally of two homes that have now been combined into one. The design maximises usable space and minimises dead space, while emphasising the relationship between the semi-private living area on the upper ground floor and the private spaces on the upper floor and the lower ground floor, allowing every family member to grow and thrive in the home.
The building’s exterior has been completely redesigned and rebuilt, including the façades and roof, with high-performance thermal insulation and a roof design technically adapted to the architectural concept.
As calculated according to the SIA standard, the volume is approximately 1,800 m3.
The total floor area is 350 m2..
