Harmonising the building with the surrounding landscape
This project, located on the eastern flank of Signal de Grandvaux, has been completely restructured and reorganised, on the foundation of an existing but relatively modest building, positioned on the summit of the mound. The plot's dominant setting and bird's eye view over Lake Geneva allow the eye to enjoy a perspective directly over the waters of the Lake, which inspired for us the concept of a floating house. The steep slope of the terrain has obliged us to anchor construction in hard sandstone and enabled us to utilise the unearthed blocks of stone to create stepped terraces supported by dry walls, like the vineyards of Lavaux. The volumetry of the building has been significantly increased according to what is prescribed and possible in terms of construction. The idea was to maximise the useful areas and to minimise the adjoining areas, while favouring family relationships, by creating multi-purpose areas that can be swapped as the family evolves and develops.
Integration within the site :
The integration within this site takes account of the special environment of the plot located on the eastern flank of Signal de Grandvaux, overlooking a large part of the Lavaux region, and Lake Geneva. Located on a steeply sloping plot of land, it enjoys an easterly and southerly aspect.
Wood, glass and metal have been favoured for the building's exterior cladding, with this choice of materials and colours respecting the harmony with the natural landscape offered by the forest to the east, together with the vines and the lake to the south.
Environmental impact :
When the old building was partly demolishedand the new parts of the building reconstructed, the criteria for sustainable development were respected. The management of the demolition was exemplary in terms of the treatment of the various sorts of waste. The materials used for the building's construction were chosen in order to limit the environmental impact of these types of construction. Grey energy is taken into account for each material, and an impact evaluation has had an appropriate influence on the choice of these materials. Priority has been given to insulation that is natural(rockwool) or based on recycled materials.
Energy production :
Heating is by gas. Thermal solar panels ensure the supply of domestic hot water, and also allow the swimming pool to be heated.
A few figures :
The SIA Volume is 2,000 m³.
The total habitable surface area is more than 500 m² gross.
